Shoichi Maeyama is a robotics researcher whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of autonomous mobile robot navigation, with a particular focus on outdoor environments and sensor fusion techniques. His most influential contribution, "Outdoor Navigation of a Mobile Robot Between Buildings Based on DGPS and Odometry Data Fusion" (2004, 95 citations), addresses one of the central challenges in mobile robotics: correcting the cumulative errors inherent in odometry-based positioning by integrating DGPS data.
