About
Russell Buchanan is a leading roboticist whose research focuses on autonomous navigation and state estimation for legged robots in extreme, confined, and perceptually-degraded environments. As a key member of Team CERBERUS, he contributed to winning the DARPA Subterranean Challenge, a milestone achievement in multi-robot exploration of underground tunnels and urban settings. His work on perceptive whole-body planning and walking posture adaptation has enabled legged robots to navigate tight spaces by dynamically altering their shape—a breakthrough cited over 60 times.
