About
Florian Shkurti is a robotics and computer vision researcher whose work spans an impressively broad range, from underwater autonomous systems to language-guided robot planning and human motion synthesis. Early in his career, Shkurti made foundational contributions to marine robotics, developing heterogeneous multi-robot systems for environmental monitoring—including aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles—and advancing underwater state estimation through vision-inertial fusion, work that collectively garnered over 200 citations and demonstrated real-world deployment in challenging ecosystems. His research has since evolved to address some of the most pressing frontiers in embodied AI. His highly cited ConceptGraphs work (178 citations) introduced open-vocabulary 3D scene representations enabling robots to reason semantically about their environments for perception and planning. Complementing this, his contributions to chemistry robotics—including both LLM-guided experiment automation (98 citations) and the ORGANA robotic assistant platform (93 citations)—demonstrate a compelling vision for autonomous scientific discovery. He has also advanced physics-based human motion estimation from video (77 citations), bridging computer vision and simulation for robotics. Across domains, Shkurti's research is unified by a drive to build robots that perceive, reason, and act intelligently in complex, real-world environments.
