Hironori Kasahara is a pioneering computer scientist and robotics researcher whose career spans over four decades, bridging the fields of parallel computing, robot control, and humanoid robotics. He is best known for his foundational contributions to parallel processing techniques for robotic systems, particularly his development of the influential DF/IHS (Depth First/Implicit Heuristic Search) and CP/MIS (Critical Path/Most Immediate Successors First) multiprocessor scheduling algorithms, introduced in his landmark 1985 paper that has garnered nearly 200 citations. These algorithms enabled real-time robot-arm control computation across multiple inexpensive microprocessors, revolutionizing cost-effective robot controller design. Kasahara extended this work to robot motion simulation and dynamic control, establishing a coherent research program in parallel robotic computation throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
