About
Itaru Endo is a pioneering roboticist whose foundational work has shaped the fields of multi-robot systems, decentralized control, and omnidirectional locomotion. His most influential contributions include the invention of a novel decoupling drive mechanism for holonomic omnidirectional mobile robots, enabling precise three-degree-of-freedom motion control with no redundancy—a concept that remains highly cited (198 citations). Endo is also the architect of the ACTRESS (ACTor-based Robots and Equipments Synthetic System) framework, a seminal autonomous and decentralized robot system that introduced key strategies for collision avoidance, task assignment, and functional distribution among multiple mobile robots through communication and rule-based coordination.
