About
Asaki Imai is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work centers on developing highly capable disaster response robots, with a particular focus on four-limbed locomotion and autonomous manipulation. His most significant contribution is the WAREC-1, a novel four-limbed robot designed to navigate the most challenging disaster environments—from rough, unstable terrain to narrow spaces, stairs, and vertical ladders (44 citations). Imai’s research extends beyond locomotion to create fully autonomous systems for critical tasks, including valve manipulation and drill handling at disaster sites, all based on visual analysis of RGBD images.
