Ankit Bhatia is a roboticist whose work spans actuation, manipulation, and contact-rich interaction. He is best known for advancing the ballbot—a dynamically stable, human-sized mobile robot with minimal moving parts. His 2015 paper on a six-stator spherical induction motor (SIM) for balancing mobile robots (35 citations) introduced a compact, high-torque design that drastically reduced mechanical complexity. This work culminated in SIMbot, a robot with only two active moving parts, detailed in a 2016 follow-up (15 citations).
