Masaharu Komori is a Japanese mechanical engineer and robotics researcher whose work spans omnidirectional mobile robotics, human-machine interfaces, mechanical design, and structural engineering. He is perhaps best known for his pioneering development of novel omnidirectional mobile robot architectures, most notably the slidable-wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot (SWOM), which elegantly achieves unrestricted directional movement using conventional wheels connected by passive sliding joints — eliminating the mechanical complexity of traditional omni-wheel systems.
