About
Jani Even is a versatile robotics and human-robot interaction researcher whose work spans autonomous navigation, acoustic sensing, and social robotics. With over 200 citations across a decade of impactful publications, Even has made significant contributions to making autonomous systems more attuned to human needs and environmental complexity. Perhaps most notably, Even pioneered research into passenger comfort in autonomous vehicles, developing the Human-Comfortable Path Planner (HCoPP) system and a 3D visibility-based comfort model — work that collectively attracted over 80 citations and addressed a largely overlooked dimension of autonomous navigation beyond mere collision avoidance. His 2018 discomfort mapping framework for robotic wheelchairs extended this vision into assistive robotics.
