Atsushi Tsukahara is a leading figure in wearable robotics, specializing in assistive and rehabilitative technologies for individuals with severe motor impairments. His research focuses on developing robotic exoskeletons, notably the Robot Suit HAL and the non-exoskeletal curara, to restore mobility in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), stroke, and spinocerebellar degeneration (SCD).
