Yoshinori Shiraishi is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of humanitarian demining. His primary research focuses on the development and multi-task cooperative control of legged robots designed for the detection and neutralization of landmines—a critical global humanitarian challenge. Shiraishi’s major contribution is the creation of the COMET series, specifically COMET-II and COMET-III, which represent some of the first platform robots ever proposed for this dangerous mission. These six-legged walking robots, equipped with dual manipulators, were engineered for enhanced stability, mobility, and autonomy in treacherous post-conflict environments.
