About
S. Hackwood is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work spans tactile sensing, robot vision, multi-robot systems, and specialized robotic engineering. Best known for foundational contributions to robotic tactile technology, Hackwood introduced a landmark torque-sensitive tactile array in 1983 — now with 120 citations — which employed magnetic dipoles within an elastic medium and magnetoresistive sensors to detect both position and orientation, offering distinct advantages over existing designs.
