About

Mingchao Chi is pioneering the next generation of soft tactile sensors and triboelectric materials, with a focus on creating electronic skins that can perceive pressure and temperature even in extreme environments. His most influential work, a triboelectric tactile sensor for high-temperature applications (2025, 223 citations), demonstrates a breakthrough in multimodal sensing beyond human tactile limits. Chi has also made major contributions to addressing the fundamental strength-toughness trade-off in flexible films, notably by harnessing the Hofmeister effect to simultaneously strengthen and toughen cellulosic triboelectric materials.
