About

Mengjiao Yuan is pioneering the next generation of flexible, multidimensional force sensors—a critical advancement for wearable electronics, human–machine interactions, and soft robotics. Her research centers on overcoming the fundamental trade-off between sensor sensitivity, measurement range, and directional detection. In her highly cited 2024 work, Yuan introduced a bio-inspired sensor design modeled on bones embedded in muscle, achieving flexible, wide-range, multidimensional force sensing—a breakthrough that addresses the longstanding limitation of unidirectional detection in conventional flexible sensors. Her second major contribution, also from 2024, presents a perpendicularly assembled oriented electrospinning nanofiber-based piezoresistive pressure sensor that simultaneously delivers high sensitivity, a wide measurement range, and wearing comfort.
