About
Masahiro Nohmi is a pioneering researcher in space robotics and tethered space systems, whose work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of how robots can operate effectively in microgravity environments. His research centers on tethered space robots — innovative systems in which a robotic unit is connected to a mother spacecraft via a tether, enabling thrusterless translation and manipulation in orbit. Beginning with his foundational 2001 paper on tethered robot casting (32 citations), Nohmi systematically developed the theoretical and experimental underpinnings of attitude control through arm link motion, a concept he validated across multiple microgravity experiments accumulating dozens of citations.
