Juhwan Kim is a robotics researcher whose work centers on autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), biomimetic locomotion, and maritime sensing systems. His most influential contribution is a CNN-based object detection method for forward-looking sonar imagery (34 citations), which enabled small remotely operated vehicles to recognize underwater targets in real time—a critical advance for autonomous navigation in low-visibility environments.
