Hongchao Zhuang is a leading researcher in heavy-duty legged robotics, with a primary focus on the mechanical design, gait planning, and power optimization of electrically driven multi-legged robots for planetary exploration and complex terrain navigation. His major contributions include pioneering methods for analyzing articulated torques and rotating speeds in six-legged robots under various gaits—such as tripod and quadrangular patterns—which have become foundational for improving load capacity and energy efficiency.
