About
Hexi Gong is a rising innovator at the intersection of rehabilitation robotics and assistive technology. Their research centers on developing intelligent, human-centered robotic systems that restore mobility and enhance quality of life for individuals with lower-limb dysfunction. Gong’s most significant contributions include the conceptualization and design of a novel wheelchair-exoskeleton hybrid robot, a groundbreaking device that seamlessly integrates the long-distance mobility of a wheelchair with the rehabilitative benefits of an exoskeleton. This work directly addresses the critical problem of muscle atrophy caused by prolonged wheelchair use, offering a dual-function solution for both movement assistance and active rehabilitation. Gong has also advanced the field of actuation with the design of a new nonlinear stiffness actuator featuring a predefined torque-deflection profile, enabling safer and more adaptable human-robot interaction. While their key publications from 2021 to 2023 have each garnered 2 citations, these foundational works are laying the groundwork for a new generation of multi-mobility assist robots. Gong’s research holds profound promise for transforming the daily lives and long-term health of people with mobility impairments.
