About

Fenglei Ni is a robotics and automation researcher whose work spans sensor development, manipulator control, space robotics, and intelligent control systems. He is perhaps best known for his 2015 development of a novel absolute magnetic rotary position sensor—a compact, robust device for measuring angular positions in motors and robot joints—which has garnered over 120 citations and demonstrated immediate practical relevance to the field. Ni has made substantial contributions to the control of redundant and hyperredundant manipulators, pioneering model-free and neurodynamic approaches, including dual fuzzy-enhanced neurodynamic schemes and noise-tolerant dual-neural-network architectures, each accumulating around 30 citations. His cerebellum-inspired network model reflects a creative cross-disciplinary approach to solving complex kinematic tracking problems. Among his most distinguished achievements is his involvement in the Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory missions, where he contributed to the design and on-orbit experimentation of a dexterous robotic hand-arm system for space servicing—a landmark application of terrestrial robotics research. More recently, his work on dual-arm cooperative manipulation frameworks and robotic blade grinding systems reflects a continued drive toward versatile, real-world robotic deployment. Collectively, Ni's research portfolio reveals a researcher dedicated to bridging theoretical innovation with high-stakes engineering applications.
