About
B. L. Davies is a pioneering figure in the field of medical robotics, whose work has fundamentally shaped the development of robot-assisted surgery. His research focuses on the design and clinical application of robotic systems for orthopaedic and urological procedures, with a particular emphasis on improving precision and safety in surgery. Davies is best known for leading the development of the "Acrobot" hands-on robotic system for total knee replacement and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. This system, which allows the surgeon to guide a small, force-controlled robot while active constraints prevent cutting outside a pre-planned zone, was validated in early clinical trials (143 citations) and a randomized controlled trial (46 citations).
