Michael De Rosa is a pioneering researcher in modular robotics and distributed systems, whose work has fundamentally shaped how large ensembles of cooperative robots are programmed, planned, and debugged. Best known for his contributions to the Claytronics Project — an ambitious initiative to realize programmable matter from millions of submillimeter spherical robots — De Rosa has tackled some of the field's most demanding algorithmic challenges.
