About

Yibing Luo is an emerging researcher at the forefront of flexible electronics, wearable sensing technologies, and human-machine interaction (HMI) systems. Their work centers on the design and fabrication of advanced hydrogel-based sensors, electronic skins (e-skins), and multimodal interfaces that bridge the gap between human physiology and intelligent machines. Luo's most celebrated contribution — a high-performance hydrogel sensor system for active rehabilitation (2023, 239 citations) — demonstrated how fully flexible, conformable HMI interfaces could dramatically improve recognition accuracy and wearing comfort in medical rehabilitation contexts. Building on this, their breathable, stretchable, self-calibrated multimodal e-skin (2024, 140 citations) tackled longstanding challenges of signal interference and low breathability in hydrogel-based wearables, advancing smart prosthetics and soft robotics. Further work integrating AI with multimodal e-skin achieved environmental object recognition and toxic gas alarming for post-earthquake rescue robotics (57 citations), showcasing real-world impact beyond healthcare. Across their portfolio, Luo has also pioneered self-powered hydrogel sensors, ultrasensitive temperature microsensors, and bioadhesive wristbands enabling real-time sign language translation. With over 490 cumulative citations in just a few years, Luo represents a compelling voice in next-generation wearable intelligence research.
