About
Xing Fan is pioneering the development of high-performance energy storage for the next generation of flexible electronics. His research focuses on the critical challenge of powering small, wearable, and robotic devices, where conventional batteries fall short. Fan’s major contribution is the design of a rechargeable aqueous gel-type AgO-Zn battery, reported in his highly cited 2023 paper. This innovative fiber battery achieves remarkable performance metrics, delivering a volumetric power density of 17.9 W/cm³—among the highest reported for aqueous systems—and an energy density of 624 mWh/cm³ at low rates, while maintaining 358 mWh/cm³ even at a demanding 50C rate. This work directly addresses the fundamental trade-off between energy and power in flexible power sources. With 10 citations already, his research is gaining rapid recognition for its potential to unlock new capabilities in wearable health monitors, soft robotics, and implantable medical devices. Fan’s work represents a significant step toward truly integrated, high-performance power solutions for the flexible electronics of tomorrow.
