About
S. Elangovan is a distinguished researcher in deep-sea technology and underwater robotics, with a primary focus on the development and qualification of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for extreme marine environments. His most notable contribution is the design and deep-sea qualification of the ROSUB 6000, a work-class ROV developed at the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai, India. This unmanned, free-swimming vehicle, capable of operating at depths of 6,000 meters, represents a significant technological achievement in India’s deep-ocean exploration capabilities. The ROSUB 6000 system, which features six degrees of freedom and is controlled from a surface vessel, has been cited 9 times, underscoring its importance as a foundational platform for deep-sea research and technology demonstration. Elangovan’s work has enabled critical advancements in underwater intervention, resource exploration, and environmental monitoring, positioning him as a key figure in India’s marine technology sector. His contributions continue to inspire further innovation in autonomous and remotely operated underwater systems for scientific and industrial applications.
