About

Cagatay Gumus is pioneering the intersection of soft robotics, smart textiles, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create wearable systems that are comfortable, scalable, and accessible. His research focuses on developing textile-based actuators and sensors that seamlessly integrate with the human body, aiming to revolutionize assistive technologies and rehabilitation. A key contribution is his work on thermally driven 3D seamless textile actuators, which offer a novel, noise-free, and portable solution for soft robotic applications, addressing the bulkiness and high cost of current devices. This work has already garnered 15 citations since its 2024 publication. More recently, Gumus has advanced the field of telerehabilitation by introducing a cloud-based control system integrated with textile-based IoT gloves, enabling remote manipulation and therapy. This system, with 4 citations, demonstrates the potential to remove geographical barriers between patients and clinicians. Through these innovations, Gumus is establishing himself as a leading voice in creating the next generation of wearable, connected, and human-centric robotic systems.
