Aniket Datar is a robotics researcher whose work spans autonomous navigation, off-road mobility, and social robot navigation — areas where he has made increasingly influential contributions in a remarkably short time. His research confronts a fundamental limitation in mobile robotics: the tendency to treat complex, real-world environments as simple flat planes divided neatly into free space and obstacles.
