About
Alexander Blom is a robotics researcher whose work centers on bipedal locomotion, robot design, and the dynamics of rapid maneuverability. His research addresses a historically underexplored challenge in the field: enabling legged robots to perform rapid acceleration and braking maneuvers with the agility seen in biological systems. Prior to his contributions, such maneuvers were largely avoided by the robotics community due to their aperiodic and dynamically complex nature. Blom's most cited work, "Investigation of a Bipedal Platform for Rapid Acceleration and Braking Manoeuvres" (2018, 8 citations), broke new ground by presenting the first examination of a biped completing a time-optimal sprint from rest to rest using advances in optimal control.
