About
Gwan-Jin Ko is pioneering the future of soft, transient electronics—devices that are not only stretchable and biocompatible but also fully biodegradable. His research sits at the intersection of materials science, bioelectronics, and soft robotics, with a focus on creating elastomers and power systems that mimic nature. Ko’s most impactful work, an ultra-stretchable and biodegradable elastomer for soft electronics, has already garnered 139 citations, highlighting its significance for next-generation wearable and implantable devices. He further advanced this field by synthesizing a shape-programmable elastomer for a bioresorbable, wireless nerve stimulator (24 citations), demonstrating a direct path to clinical applications. Inspired by biology, Ko also developed electric eel-inspired soft electrolytes for solid-state power systems (18 citations), and recently introduced a wireless, multifunctional system-integrated programmable soft robot (14 citations) that redefines the capabilities of soft robotics.
