Development of a Novel Low-Cost Wheel-Legged Active Suspension

Incorporating legged robot design into the development of off-road vehicle active suspensions has significant potential for improving vehicle off-road performance while facing economic challenges. Based on the design of legged robots, this paper illustrates the development of a single-leg test bench of a novel Low-Cost Wheel-Legged Active Suspension. This research aims to explore the possibility of combining the advantages of legged robot and active suspensions while adhering to strict cost-efficiency principles. The objective of cost reduction is reached by applying standardized, systematic, and generalized batch products and implementing the low-cost requirements in the design procedure of each system. In this paper, mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems of the test bench are designed; simulation experiments are conducted to test the function of the test bench. The results of experiments demonstrate that the designed test bench effectively meets its intended objectives.
