Customized Assistive System Design for Visually Impaired People

摘要
Visually impaired people do feel unsecure when they walk from one place to the other, even it is in or open, or closed space. Any object standing in their way is an obstacle that is not always detected in time and, thus, turns into threat for their health or, even, life. This state of insecurity can be eliminated in time, partially or totally, by the customized assistive systems. These people must have guidance, training and education so that to be able to understand the phenomena specific to their deficiencies and associated illnesses so that, finally, the state of insecurity not to turn into the state of fear of getting out of the house and communication with other people. The research presented by this paper is focused on how are ensured both, their safety and access to the learning environment specific to visually impaired people. A customized assistive intelligent system is designed and its main components are mentioned to be: anthropomorphic walking robot; dedicated integrated system implemented on PC; dedicated application. This solution is mainly dedicated to the middle and high school young Romanian people living in, relatively, small spaces, even there are closed or, open ones.
