Shoji Tatsumi is a pioneering roboticist whose work sits at the intersection of anthropomorphic design, prosthetics, and intelligent control systems. His primary research focuses on developing dexterous, human-like robot hands and advancing model-based reinforcement learning for autonomous agents. Tatsumi’s most significant contribution is the creation of the Osaka City University Hand series. The OCU Hand I (2010, 20 citations) is a landmark 19-degree-of-freedom, five-fingered anthropomorphic hand designed not only as an open research platform but also with the cosmetic and functional fidelity required for prosthetic applications.
