Ruo Zhang is a rising star in robotics, whose research bridges the critical gap between robotic manipulation and real-world, dynamic environments. Her work centers on two key areas: enabling robots to perform whole-arm manipulation—using not just hands but forearms and elbows for tasks like gathering or supporting—and achieving robust, reactive grasping of moving objects. In her highly-cited 2024 paper "AirExo," Zhang introduced low-cost, full-body exoskeletons that allow robots to learn these complex, joint-level control strategies directly from human demonstration in the wild.
