About

Miaolin Zhang is pioneering the field of all-weather robotic vision, developing ultrasound-based ASICs that overcome the limitations of traditional camera systems. Her core research focuses on low-power, compact, and robust 3D non-visual navigation for metamorphic robots—machines that can change shape to adapt to their environment. Zhang’s major contribution is the design of a 64-channel ultrasound ASIC with a novel Universal Energy Recycling TX (UERTX) driver, which enables object detection at ranges beyond 7 meters while consuming only 4.3 mW per channel. This breakthrough allows robots to navigate reliably in rain, fog, or darkness, where conventional cameras fail.
