About
Klaus Petersen is a robotics researcher whose work sits at the fascinating intersection of musical performance and human-robot interaction, with a particular focus on anthropomorphic musical performance robots (MPRs). Based primarily at Waseda University, Petersen has made significant contributions to one of robotics' most creatively ambitious frontiers: engineering robots capable of playing musical instruments with human-like proficiency. His most influential work, garnering 27 citations, developed a musical-based interaction system for the Waseda Flutist Robot, a landmark project with roots stretching back to 1990. Complementing this, his research on auditory feedback control systems (24 citations) drew direct inspiration from professional human flutists to refine robotic performance.
