About

John Hancock is a robotics and autonomous systems researcher whose work has made significant contributions to two interconnected fields: laser-based sensing and intelligent vehicle navigation. Working prominently in the late 1990s and early 2000s, often in association with Carnegie Mellon's celebrated Navlab program, Hancock advanced the state of the art in laser radar (ladar) technology, developing high-performance range scanners capable of the long-distance, high-resolution measurements demanded by high-speed autonomous driving — work that attracted 66 and 19 citations respectively.
