About
Hong Fu’s research focuses on advancing robotic grasping and manipulation through innovative, self-adaptive hand designs. His major contributions lie in developing novel grippers that combine soft robotics principles with mechanical intelligence, enabling versatile and gentle object handling. His most influential work, the cluster-tube self-adaptive (CTSA) robot hand, introduces a tendon-driven mechanism with sliding-tube assemblies that automatically conform to object shapes—a breakthrough cited 25 times. Building on this, Fu created the CTSA-II hand, a soft robot with a pin-array structure and self-adaptive function (24 citations), which uses springs and a membrane for adaptive grasping. He also pioneered the concentric rotation pin array (CRPA) gripper, a universal solution for flexible production lines. Beyond grasping, Fu contributed to textile automation with a continuous vertical-pulling doffing robot for ring spinning. His work on parallel-pinching and enveloping hands with gear-linkage mechanisms further showcases his ability to merge mechanical design with practical robotics. With over 68 total citations across his top papers, Fu’s research has significantly impacted soft robotics and industrial automation, offering elegant solutions for adaptive, reliable grasping in complex environments.
