Hannah Sargeant is a planetary scientist whose work is shaping the future of human and robotic exploration of the Moon. Her research focuses on three key areas: lunar resource utilization, surface trafficability, and mission architecture for sample return. Sargeant’s most-cited paper, “Analysis of Lunar Boulder Tracks: Implications for Trafficability of Pyroclastic Deposits” (2019, 36 citations), provides critical insights into the geomechanical properties of lunar pyroclastic deposits—valuable targets for in-situ resource utilization. By studying boulder tracks, she assesses whether rover and human traverses can safely navigate these terrains.
