About
Dr. Chuan Hu is a leading researcher in structural health monitoring and geodetic engineering, with a primary focus on the application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for real-time deformation monitoring of large-scale civil infrastructure. His most influential work, published in 2022, introduces a novel, low-cost GNSS solution specifically designed for the challenging task of monitoring cable saddle pushing during the construction of long-span suspension bridges. Using the Guojiatuo Suspension Bridge as a case study, Dr. Hu demonstrated how his system can provide continuous, automated, and highly accurate displacement data under extreme loadings and hostile environmental conditions—situations where traditional sensors often fail. This contribution directly addresses critical safety concerns for bridges under construction, offering a practical and cost-effective alternative to conventional methods. With 23 citations to date, this paper has already established Dr. Hu as a key innovator in the field, bridging the gap between advanced satellite geodesy and real-world civil engineering safety applications.
