About

MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) is a high-level numerical computing environment and programming language developed by MathWorks, widely used across engineering, mathematics, and scientific research. In robotics and AI, MATLAB serves as a versatile platform for modeling, simulation, algorithm development, and control system design. Researchers and engineers use it to implement kinematics and dynamics of robotic manipulators, design and tune controllers such as PID and computed torque control, perform trajectory optimization, and develop path planning algorithms. Its companion environment, Simulink, enables block-diagram-based simulation of complex dynamic systems including hydraulic actuators, quadrupeds, and UAVs. Dedicated toolboxes — such as the Robotics Toolbox, KUKA Control Toolbox, and FROST — extend its capabilities for specific robotic applications. MATLAB matters because it dramatically lowers the barrier to prototyping and validating complex algorithms before hardware deployment, offers extensive visualization tools, and bridges academic research with practical engineering. Its widespread adoption in universities and industry makes it a common language for communicating and reproducing robotics research results.
