About

Xin Liu is a materials scientist and polymer engineer whose research sits at the intersection of soft matter, flexible electronics, and functional hydrogels. Liu has made significant contributions to the design of advanced hydrogel systems that overcome longstanding limitations in wet-environment performance, particularly focusing on solvent resistance, mechanical robustness, and adaptive adhesion. Among Liu's most impactful contributions is the development of solvent-resistant, nonswellable hydrogel conductors capable of operating across diverse liquid media — a breakthrough work that has garnered over 214 citations and opened new possibilities for underwater wearable sensors and implantable bioelectrodes. Complementing this, Liu pioneered nucleobase-tackified adhesive gels that achieve tough bonding in both polar and nonpolar solvents (120 citations), drawing inspiration from DNA's molecular architecture to engineer anti-freezing, sweat-resistant skin sensors with equal citation impact.
