About

Weican Guo is a pioneering researcher in the field of robotic non-destructive testing (NDT) and maintenance for industrial pressure infrastructure. His work centers on developing specialized robotic systems for the in-pipe inspection, repair, and maintenance of pressure pipelines and spherical tanks—critical assets in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Guo’s major contributions include the design and implementation of a novel robot-based system for ultrasonic inspection of pressure pipelines, addressing the challenge of inspecting pipelines that are often overhead or buried. His research on ultrasonic inspection techniques for pipe elbows, which are prone to severe corrosion, has advanced the use of traditional and phased array ultrasound for inline inspection.
