About

Ihsan Inan is a pioneer in robotic digestive and hernia surgery, whose work has fundamentally shaped how surgeons adopt and evaluate the da Vinci surgical system. His research focuses on the practical implementation of robotic technology, from initial setup and docking times to the cognitive and dexterity skills required for proficiency. In his landmark 2010 study (75 citations), he prospectively analyzed da Vinci setup and docking, demonstrating that these tasks could be accomplished within acceptable timeframes, directly challenging assumptions about prolonged operating times. His 2009 investigation (39 citations) uniquely explored how IQ, computer-gaming skills, and laparoscopic experience impact robotic performance, providing critical insights for training curricula. Inan has also been at the forefront of advancing single-incision and transvaginal robotic surgery, publishing early experiences with intersecting robotic arms (2010, 25 citations) and a transdisciplinary review of robotic laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (2012, 20 citations).
