About
Guifu Zhang is a researcher advancing the frontiers of autonomous navigation and mobile robotics, with a focus on intelligent path planning and multi-sensor perception. His work addresses critical challenges in enabling robots and driverless vehicles to operate safely and efficiently in complex, real-world environments. A key contribution is the development of a hybrid navigation framework that integrates the global pathfinding capabilities of the Hybrid A* algorithm with the local, reactive obstacle avoidance of the Timed Elastic Band (TEB) algorithm, a system detailed in his 2023 paper which has garnered 11 citations for its practical approach to autonomous navigation. Zhang has also made significant strides in indoor robotics, demonstrating the effective use of the RTAB-Map algorithm for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) by fusing data from multiple sensors. This work, published in 2022 with 6 citations, successfully enabled a mobile robot to map and navigate a 100-square-meter indoor space. By tackling both global planning and local control, Zhang’s research provides robust solutions for applications ranging from sweeping robots to safety inspection robots, solidifying his impact on the practical deployment of intelligent autonomous systems.
