Abstract

The increasing adoption of collaborative robots, or cobots, in Industry 5.0 has led to a new paradigm of human–machine cooperation. Cobots are designed to work alongside humans, enhancing work support, process automation, and program support. While cobots have the potential to improve productivity and reduce errors, their integration also raises important questions about the nature of work and the impact on employees. This chapter aims to explore the impact of cobots on human–machine cooperation and the workforce in the era of Industry 5.0. This chapter presents a comprehensive review of the existing literature on cobots, including their development, implementation, and applications in various industries. The chapter investigates the differences between human and machine work, including the defects of each, and how cobots can be used to compensate for these defects. Additionally, the chapter examines the social perception of Industry 5.0 and the impact of cobots on workforce readiness and job quality. The chapter also presents a case study of a manufacturing company that has recently integrated cobots into its production process. The case study investigates the impact of cobots on the company’s workforce, including changes in job responsibilities and perceptions of job quality. Through this case study, we will explore the benefits and drawbacks of cobots and how they can be used to improve work support and productivity while also supporting the well-being of the workforce. Through a comprehensive review of the literature and a case study of a manufacturing company, we aim to provide an advanced understanding of the implications of cobots for Industry 5.0 and its adoption by organizations.
