Abstract
Due to urbanization, waste management is one of the crucial issues that have to be considered. With the help of the Internet of Things (IoT) this issue can be addressed. The proposed system aims to develop a smart dustbin that opens automatically upon any incoming garbage. It has the ability to classify dry and wet waste by using a moisture sensor. The smart dustbin is capable of measuring the level of garbage in the bin by using level sensing ultrasonic sensors which are placed at the top of the dustbin. The maximum garbage level is set to 20cm. If the maximum garbage level is exceeds this threshold of 20cm, automatic notification is sent to the authorized person to take the necessary action, through Global System for Mobile (GSM) technology. The smart dustbin is also equipped with a Robotic vacuum cleaner to identify the dust and collects on it using a DC motor.
