摘要
This chapter suggests integrating the IEEE 1918.1 Tactile Internet (TI) architecture into the 5G new radio (NR) access technology and core network, with adequate mapping between the entities and functionalities of both systems. It proposes an overlay architecture design for an integrated TI system, based on the IEEE 1918.1 architecture and protocols with a 5G NR network. The chapter also proposes a conceptual teleoperation system based on 5G NR as access technology to the network. Through numerical analysis and simulations, it shows that the Haptics over Internet Protocol overhead will not violate the quality of service requirements in terms of delay. The chapter focuses on a teleoperation case study where a user can control a robotic hand remotely. More specifically, this is the case of an ungrounded haptic glove connected to a teleoperated robotic hand on a remote site.
