About

Yongxing Guo is a leading figure in the development of fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based force sensing for robotics and biomedical applications. His research centers on designing high-performance, multi-dimensional force/torque sensors that overcome the limitations of traditional electronic sensors. Guo’s major contributions include pioneering a three-dimensional FBG force sensor for robot plantar force measurement (143 citations), which employs a Maltese-cross beam design to achieve precise, low-coupling force detection. He further advanced the field with a six-dimensional force/torque sensor (104 citations) that uses a novel multilayer measurement concept to decouple forces and torques for robot joint integration. His work also extends to a three-axis fingertip sensor (90 citations) and dynamic deformation measurement of bionic flapping-wing robots using FBG arrays. Notably, Guo has explored FBG’s potential in surgical robotics, investigating adhesive-encapsulated sensors for alcohol-disinfection environments. With over 350 total citations, his innovations in compact, robust FBG sensors are enabling safer, more intuitive human-robot interaction and advancing the state of the art in surgical and field robotics.
