Yazhou Huang is a robotics researcher whose work lies at the intersection of human-robot interaction and motion planning, with a particular focus on enabling robots to operate intelligently and safely alongside people. His research addresses two fundamental challenges: how robots can understand and predict human behavior, and how they can coordinate complex whole-body movements. In his highly cited 2011 paper, "Planning humanlike actions in blending spaces," Huang pioneered a novel approach to human-aware coverage planning by modeling human activity as spatial Poisson processes, creating probabilistic spatio-temporal maps that allow robots to plan paths minimizing interference with people.
