About

Seyeong Im is a rising innovator in the field of medical robotics, with a primary focus on magnetic navigation systems (MNS) for wireless capsule endoscopy and targeted drug delivery. Her research addresses critical limitations in conventional MNS designs—namely their prohibitive cost, excessive weight, and bulky volume—by proposing novel, compact, and electrically efficient solutions. In her most cited work, Im introduced C-Mag, a robot-aided MNS that enables precise wireless capsule manipulation, offering a practical alternative to expensive clinical systems. She has also made significant contributions to the optimization of gradient and uniform saddle coil arrangements, developing methodologies that enhance magnetic field uniformity and gradient strength while reducing inductance and extending operating time. These advances are vital for the safe and effective control of medical magnetic robots in constrained clinical environments. With her papers accumulating citations from the growing magnetic robotics community, Im’s work is laying the groundwork for next-generation, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Her achievements mark her as a key contributor to the future of intelligent, robot-assisted gastrointestinal healthcare.
