About
Othmane-Latif Ouabi is pioneering the use of ultrasonic guided waves for autonomous robotic inspection of large metal structures, such as storage tanks and ship hulls. His core research lies at the intersection of robotics, non-destructive testing, and signal processing, where he has developed novel simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) frameworks tailored for magnetic crawlers. By exploiting ultrasonic echoes reflected from plate boundaries, Ouabi’s work enables robots to recover both their own trajectory and the geometry of the surrounding metal plates—a critical capability for long-range, autonomous inspection in industrial environments.
